About this listen

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig.

It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right?

I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?

It turns out this place isn't a bar. It's a guild. And the three cocky guys I drenched with a margarita during my trial? Yeah, they were mages. Either I'm exactly the kind of takes-no-sh-t bartender this guild needs, or there's a good reason no one else wants to work here.

So what's a broke girl to do? Take the job, of course - with a pay raise.

Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Demonized, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen.

My first audiobook review

This was the first time if have listened to an audiobook right through and without purchasing the book itself. I found it was good for when walking the dog and driving. I had to rewind a few times when I missed something though. If something else attracted my attention, I found that I was easily distracted from the audiobook and would have to reply the past I missed. The story and character were good. Romance doesn’t seem to be the main part of this series. This is the first time I have read/listened for this author. I was first introduced to this author at the book convention and was attracted to the cover art which the author does herself, but also liked the descriptions of her books. The narrator was good, however only really had three main voices - from the heroines perspective Tori, men (the three main men in this series sounded similar and was hard to tell them about, and a sort of posh lady voice, however I did still enjoy her narration of the story.

Fun, Fresh and...

I picked up this title on a whim. I'd never heard of the author or series, but I liked the title and the blurb so I paid over my credit. I'm so glad I did. This is the first new best-of-breed series I've found since The Rivers of London. Tori and her three new best friends are great fun and there's enough back-story mystery to keep the flow going through the series. The narrator, whom I'd not heard before, fits the main character and does a good job with different characters throughout.

Pour yourself a drink & enjoy

Ive had this in my wish list for a while & was not disappointed. Tori is a feisty human who can't keep a job for more than a few months due to her tempted. Things seem to take a turn for the better when she starts at The Crow & Hammer... or do they. But unbeknownst to Tori she's actually working in a mage bar & her life is never the same again. I liked Tori & the three mages she befriends Aaron, Ezra & Kai, the four f then had good chemistry. She seems to be able to hold her own in this new world even when surround by powerful mages. Cris Dukehart did a great job with the narration. Can't wait to continue on with this series. A really fun listen.

A Wonderfull start to an excellent series.

The first couple of books have some awkward to listen to phrases and discriptions but it mellows out. The story is well written, there are hidden hints to both sister storylines (they run parallel to eachother but they can deffinately be read stand alone).
This book does an excellent job at world building.
This is the awkward teenage year beginings of one of my favourite series, full of so much promise and it does not dissapoint

Pretty good actually

Story and narration held my attention. Perfect combination of interesting characters and plot but nothing too complex or serious, because who needs that right now! I'm looking forward to listening to the next book in the series.

Amazing Book

I love this book and series by Annette Marie. I've lost count how many times I have listened to this book/series. The story is great, and the characters are the reason I keep coming back. Looking forward to the rest of the series to be written.
Cris Dukehart does a fantastic job, I've listened to a few different stories performed by her and she is always great.
