About this listen
Learn about the life and inventions of Thomas Edison with iMindsJNR audio learning series for younger minds.
Imagine a world where you couldn’t phone your friends, listen to music or watch movies. This was the world before Thomas Edison’s inventions. Edison is one of the greatest inventors in history. He was born in Ohio in America in 1847, the youngest of seven children. By the time he died in 1931, aged 84, the world had benefited from so many of his inventions which now make our lives easier and more enjoyable. When Thomas Edison was young, he got very sick. This left him slightly deaf. He remained very curious and wanted to experiment with everything. He even rubbed two cats together once to see if they would create a spark! His teachers didn’t really understand him, so he was mostly taught at home by his mother.

This is a short but enjoyable primer on a fascinating character, filled with fun facts, whimsical music, and even some nostalgic vocal effects thrown in for good measure. Kids will enjoy learning about the adventures of a young Edison, as well as his many inventions and accomplishments in adulthood. A good choice for kids fascinated by inventions and machines, and suitable for younger children as well as older ones. Performer Leah Vandenburg's voice is caramel-sweet, and she does an excellent job conveying a sense of fun.
