About this listen
This Was a Man opens with a shot being fired, but who pulled the trigger, and who lives, and who dies?
In Whitehall, Giles Barrington discovers the truth about his wife, Karin, from the Cabinet Secretary. Is she a spy or a pawn in a larger game?
Harry Clifton sets out to write his magnum opus while his wife, Emma, completes her 10 years as Chairman of the Bristol Royal Infirmary and receives an unexpected call from Margaret Thatcher offering her a job.
Sebastian Clifton becomes chairman of Farthings Kaufman bank, but only after Hakim Bishara has to resign for personal reasons. Sebastian and Samantha's talented daughter, Jessica, is expelled from the Slade School of Fine Art, but her aunt Grace comes to her rescue.
Meanwhile, Lady Virginia is about to flee the country to avoid her creditors when the Duchess of Hertford dies, and she sees another opportunity to clear her debts and finally trump the Cliftons and Barringtons.
In a devastating twist, tragedy engulfs the Clifton family when one of them receives a shocking diagnosis that will throw all their lives into turmoil.
This Was a Man is the captivating final instalment of the Clifton Chronicles, a series of seven novels that has topped the bestseller lists around the world and enhanced Jeffrey Archer's reputation as a master storyteller.

I thoroughly enjoyed this last book of the Clifton Chronicles.
What a splendid read, gripping from the first book - till the last. I must admit Giles' eulogy had me in tears. Bravo!!

An fitting final instalment to the epic journey o
Like it's predecessors this book continues the scheming, double crossing, twists and turns of Lady Virginia, Giles Barrington and Harry Clifton just to name a few.
You can't help increasing your loathing of some and loving of other characters. Through the chronicles we have seen love triumph, families grow, winners and loosers. The inclusion of real characters within the pages added to the appeal. This book closes the 7 decades nicely.
Alex Jennings narration made the whole experience a most believable and enjoyable one. Would like to acknowledge both the author and narrator who have essentially become part of my life during this journey. I'm going to miss you all. A sincerest thank you.
A highly recommended read or listen

What a series! loved all the books and cried throughout the last hour of this one...definitely because of the story line and not because I am going to miss the characters (cough cough).

Great next book
The book is beautifully finished with fabulous writing by Archer. Felt the book got a bit sidetracked in the middle though. Nevertheless highly recommended.

Jeffrey Archer does his series justice
I was nervous to listen to the last instalment of my new favourite novel series, but Jeffrey Archer completes his series brilliantly. I could not stop listening, once I began, and finished in a matter of days. Loved it and was so moved by the ending. Alex Jennings' performance is unsurprising brilliant, bring each character to life.
