The Sunday Times Bestseller

If change is the natural order of things, why do so many people struggle with the milestones of life - from first jobs and first loves to children leaving home and retirement?

We live in a culture of limitless choice - and life is now more complex than ever. In This Too Shall Pass, acclaimed psychotherapist Julia Samuel draws on hours of conversations with her patients to show how we can learn to adapt and thrive during our most difficult and transformative experiences. Illuminated by the latest social and psychological research, this book unflinchingly deals with the hard times in family, love, work, health and identity.

From a woman deciding whether to leave her husband for a younger lover, to a father handling a serious medical diagnosis. And from a new mother struggling with the decision to return to work, to a young man dealing with the aftermath of coming out, and a woman starting over after losing her job.

These powerful, unforgettable and deeply intimate stories about everyday people will inform our understanding of our own unique response to change and enlighten the way we approach challenges at every stage of life.

Wise woman's words shared generously

This is the third of Julia Samuel's books I have listened to & learned from. Her experience as a therapist guides her advice in quiet & reassuring ways. Highly recommended

Poignant and appreciated

I loved this book. I found it to be a soothing balm and with many wise insights.
It is a shame to read reviews calling it boring… It is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think many others will enjoy and find peace through its words and message.

For me it was the right balance of feeling “seen” and having previous vague ponderings fleshed out and reflected back to me, whilst also being presented with new thoughts and ways of seeing things.

In my opinion, a great book for many who are feeling challenged on the path of life and change, and also those who like to take a somewhat philosophical and thoughtful approach to life.

so bored

I am so bored listening to this book. The narration is terrible sounding breathless as if narration of this book is exhausting and she can't be bothered. Also it seems that her counselling style is much the same. Waiting for her clients to come to their own conclusions without offering strategies, input or insight. There were however quite a few statistics thrown in which made it feel like the insight offered was, you are not the only one with these problems, there are others. This too shall pass.

Boring

This has got to be the most boring thing I've listened to. Not only did the narrator's voice sound flat and monotonous, it was also depressing. I'd hate for this person to be my therapist. She'd probably drive me to suicide!

Terrible

I’ve not been inclined to leave a review before during the many years I’ve been listening to audio books but it would be terribly irresponsible of me not to with this title. How on earth did this pass through? The narration was profoundly and irresponsibly awful. I wanted to leave no stars but was not permitted to.
