good book but iffy narrator

Complex and gritty, the novel is grabs and sustains attention. My only issue is with the narration. Most of the male voices are believable, but the voice used for the main character is annoying to this female reader. It is guttural and sometimes seemingly full of spit. I carry on with the books because of the stories despite the inappropriate female voice.
