Publisher's Summary
The instant New York Times best seller and “inspiring and vulnerable” (Trevor Noah) memoir from Bobby Hall, the multiplatinum recording artist known as Logic and the number-one best-selling author of Supermarket.
This Bright Future is a raw and unfiltered journey into the life and mind of Bobby Hall, who emerged from the wreckage of a horrifically abusive childhood to become an era-defining artist of our tumultuous age.
A self-described orphan with parents, Bobby Hall began life as Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, the only child of an alcoholic, mentally ill mother on welfare and an absent, crack-addicted father. After enduring 17 years of abuse and neglect, Bobby ran away from home and - with nothing more than a discarded laptop and a ninth-grade education - he found his voice in the world of hip-hop and a new home in a place he never expected: the untamed and uncharted wilderness of the social media age.
In the message boards and livestreams of this brave new world, Bobby became Logic, transforming a childhood of violence, anger, and trauma into music that spread a resilient message of peace, love, and positivity. His songs would touch the lives of millions, taking him to dizzying heights of success, where the wounds of his childhood and the perils of Internet fame would nearly be his undoing.
A landmark achievement in an already remarkable career, This Bright Future “is just like the author - fearless, funny, and full of heart” (Ernest Cline, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Ready Player One) and looks back on Bobby’s extraordinary life with lacerating humor and fearless honesty. Heart-wrenching yet ultimately uplifting, this book completes the incredible true story and transformation of a human being who, against all odds, refused to be broken.

Amazing
Brilliant retelling- Audiobook is definitely the best way to hear this ad Bobby really adds to it with his voice. I personally found his reading become a lot more relaxed as he went through, which is cool to see. I loved listening about all the stories and characters. I hope his future continues to be bright ✌️❤️➕

Written like a huge rap song, lots of American slang and gangster talk.
I think this book would appeal even more to more international readers if the author had just stuck to proper English. Maybe it’s just me, but this book wasn’t quite my cup of tea. As a survivor of child abuse myself it kind of grated me how Sir Bobby could make light of some of the abuse he went through, some of it he seems he cant take seriously, but I guess thats because I feel that child abuse and parental mental illness is a serious matter and not something to be laughed at. Maybe because I went through some worse abuses. I also think humour is how Sir Bobby deals with his past traumas. I seems to be his way of minimalizing It so he can cope with it better, a survival technique. I guess it feels better to laugh than to cry. He seems to have a very positive outlook and that is important and rather rare for a rapper. I can relate to him in many ways with how his mum treated him and his dad was rarely around. His book was tinged American slang, profanities, also anger and frustration particularly in the later chapters, and throughout the book he speaks just like your average American rapper which can make it harder to keep focusing on what he is trying to say if you are not American. One important thing is that you can never make everyone happy. There will always be some criticism and if you can learn anything from that criticism simply turn your back on it. Some people have been though different things in life to make them the ways they are be it good or bad and their attitude may have nothing to do with you and more to do with who they are. He talks a whole lot about racism he has endured and it makes my head spin to think how bad racism is in America! I can tell that it really upsets him and frustrates him a lot which is a shame because that gets in the way of trying to stay positive. I have a big mixture in races in me, I don’t have dark skin and I am paler than I should be, a bit like Sir Bobby, but I never feel a need to discus it or bring it up, and if I am asked what races are in me I just shrug and reply “The Human Race”. I don’t feel race is important as we are all earthlings. So far this has ended any arguments on the topic. I have never heard of who Sir Bobby was before this book, and I don’t know any of his music. Hopefully his songs are as positive as he is because positive rap is rare and takes the upmost skill to write and create. If so he can rest assured his music is going to help and influence generations of kids maybe even his own child/children. It seems he is finished with his career in music, but like most musicians I think he will return in the future, maybe when he is older and has had even more life experience and he will write better and more positive rap songs. Who knows he may even get into the top 5 in my country one day. I think Sir Bobby is still rather young and still has a lot more learning to do over the decades that lay ahead. I give this book a average 3 star rating, but I note too that this book would most likely rate much better in America. I wish him and his family well for the future.
