Publisher's Summary

DI Nikki Galena gets a series of anonymous calls. She is told the place, time, and who will die. But the messages are in a secret language used only by villains. Nikki and her team must decode the riddles and work out where the threats are coming from.

Meanwhile, the fens have been hit by a series of "designer burglaries". It appears that a new gang of thieves are stealing to order. And things get very close to home when a friend of Nikki's mother dies suddenly and, perhaps, suspiciously.

Do any of these events relate, and can Nikki stop the thieves on the fens before anyone else dies?

Full of twists and turns, this is a crime thriller that will keep you in suspense until its heart-stopping conclusion.

Continuing a Great Storyline

Live catching up with familiar characters.
Narration was not to my liking. Too rushed and all voices too similar.

Why didn’t they ever change the narrator?

The character Micky is now a young man doing an apprenticeship and he’s still being portrayed as an 8 year old girl by this narrator. Urgghh!!!

Enthralling

The plot of this Nikki and Joe story is excellent. Joy Ellis continues to keep me entertained with her thoroughly enjoyable stories.
As always, my only complaint is that I wish they were several hours longer. I am not really serious about this.

Highly recommended

love this series but

this one isn't the best. narration is fine- massively improved from the first book and all in between have been fine. the issue with this book is that I found the plot lines extremely farfetched and at times the dialogue didn't match the situations. but I plan to continue the series but I probably should stop bingeing them.

The past comes forward

This was such a sad story line. There was, of course, bad behaviour from ‘crims’ and some gruesome deaths as always. The premise of this story was the fallout from things in the characters past coming to haunt those in the present. A great story with many people contributing to solving the mysteries.
One death, in particular, gives Nikki and Joseph cause to pause and question what they have besides work. There is a very satisfying ending, if not quite just.
