About this listen

Damaris Chance's unhappy past has turned her off the idea of marriage forever. But her guardian, Lady Beatrice Davenham, convinces her to make her coming out anyway - and have a season of carefree, uncomplicated fun.

When Damaris finds herself trapped in a compromising situation with the handsome rake Freddy Monkton-Coombes, she has no choice but to agree to wed him - as long as it's in name only. Her new husband seems to accept her terms, but Freddy has a plan of his own: To seduce his reluctant winter bride.

Will Damaris' secrets destroy her chance at true happiness? Or can Freddy help her cast off the shackles of the past, and yield to delicious temptation?

A great story

This is book #2 of Anne Gracie’s interesting Chance Sisters series which I’m thoroughly enjoying. As with book #1, which introduces the 4 distinctly different sisters, there are some dark themes handled tastefully through good narration and well-written prose. Despite being haunted by terrible pasts, Damaris and Freddie are two good eggs who try to stay positive and make the most of their present situation to create a better future for themselves. It’s sweet that these two come together. Endearingly charming, Freddie Muffin hyphen’ never ceased to amuse me. I felt he was the unexpected superstar of this story which only got better and better as the plot developed. Their time at Freddie’s ancestral home marked the turning point of their ‘relationship’ and Damaris’s clever retorts were entertainment gold(!!).

I highly recommend this book (and series) and will be listening to Jane’s story next,
