Publisher's Summary
A masterpiece of historical fiction, this is the Great Novel of America's "Greatest Generation".
Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II, which begins with The Winds of War and continues in War and Remembrance, stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

Even better the second time around
The insight and understanding that mr Wouk shows in his novels is, I think, outstanding. I always have experience some feelings of loss when I’ve completed one of his books and have difficulty getting interested in other authors.
A wonderful read.

Excellent Summary of the start of WWII Highly recommended
Wouk tells the story of the rumblings and beginnings of World War II through the lives of an American Naval family. The everyday lives of the Henry family are controlled and manipulated by the events of the late thirties and early forties. A truly interesting and fascinating tale that handles the issues and events leading up to the US involvement in WWII culminating in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour in1941. A great prelude to the sequel War And Remembrance A thoroughly entertaining but also informative story.
