Publisher's Summary

Can Eight handle his biggest challenge yet; civilization?

He’s carved a home out in the wilderness, and met its inhabitants, killing some and making friends with others. Things are looking downright cozy—in a bushcraft kind of way—but there’s a village to the east with tools, resources, and new magic to learn. That’s all incredibly tempting when living among the wild things.

Where there are people though, there are complications, including the murder-y kind.

Add a few ghosts, giant beasts, and a new god too, and...well...life’s hard for an old man trapped in a young boy’s body. And things are about to get much, much tougher. Still, all that wisdom and experience have to count for something, right?

Eight: The Way of the Hunter is part mystery, part ghost story, and all adventure. Follow Eight as he fights for his place in a new world using a System made of paths, soul marks, attributes, talents, and skills to explore it.

A litrpg story that adults can stand to listen to

This is my favourite audiobook. Being a father, I empathise with many of the themes.
Additional, I found Tiedemann's voice to be both engaging and soothing.
The best thing about the story is that, unlike almost all other litrpg stories I have seen, the main character dosen't act like a 16 year old idiot.

Very enjoyable

This series is different to other LitRpg books I have listened to! The writing and audio is done very well, the interest kept in the story. I loved the two perspectives of different characters at the end, tantalising with possibilities of the future!

Same things I loved about the first book

The performance is awesome. I don't know how Gary Tiedemann manages to convey all the tension of action while still maintaining that relaxing, gentle tone, but it works so well for this story.

While the action is really well written, what elevates this series is the introspection and slower pacing. It's a bit "litrpg meets slice of life". There's a lot of philosophical rumination, and while I don't always share the protagonist's worldview, I did appreciate how it completes the character.

While I thought the tension was a little lacking in the middle third of the book it was overall very enjoyable, and kept true to the promise of the first.

Gets creepy

A fantasy world of magic and spirits, where a budding mistey unfolds as our protagonist learns the mysterys and powers of this new world. Unfortunately, it goes hard off the rails when they start a creepy semi sexual romance with a body stealing sentient fungus for like a third of the book. just completely loses its mind for a third of the book. super intimate and creepy.
