About this listen
You can't see them. But they can see you.
This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams.
Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time. Afraid and trapped among strangers, Mina is desperate for answers. Who are the watchers and why are these creatures keeping them imprisoned, keen to watch their every move?

Very atmospheric.
Very listenable. Though not particularly scary, it does well to create a creepy and rather bleak atmosphere.
You won't see the twist coming, because it feels a bit shoe-horned in at the end, and needed to be supported by flashbacks of incidents and conversations that aren't shared with the reader till after the reveal.
The ending is even more frustrating, all the lore established tossed out in the very last paragraph to provide an unsatisfying cliffhanger.
If it's the beginning of a series though, I'd definitely give the next book a try.

Totally listenable
Not one to write reviews but I did enjoy listening to The Watchers. Ancient lore fused with today. Narration was excellent and right fir this story. Recommend if you like being scared.

Perfect for getting back into audiobooks
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A nice mix of Irish folklore and the modern world. I was quite intrigued by the world the author created and was very satisfied by the answers it gives and the right amount of questions left unanswered to be left in suspense. I couldn't stop listening. I didn't find it scary but absolutely found the interesting.
I loved how the reader voiced the characters and the Irish accent absolutely lent itself to the story and folklore.

Exactly what I've been looking for in a novel
Beautifully written, haunting, terrifying in parts. I listened long into the night with a pending heart

Mythical yet original
I liked who the watchers turned out to be, which would be expected in an earlier Ireland. The story was pretty original. At least, I haven't come across a similar story. I enjoyed listening to it.
But in the back of my mind, I kept wondering why no one just carried an old horseshoe around or something.

Gripping story
Beautiful prose and descriptions that give you just enough information for your brain to paint a picture. The story is fast paced and I binged it.

Good, Just Not Scary.
I really enjoyed the premise of this book and it's setting, but for some reason I was never scared by it. I think the storytelling lacked that urgency. Even the revelations where somehow almost non-events emotionally. Not for me, but I am glad I gave it a go.

An awesome fast paced horror!
Thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The narrator easily created the claustrophobic atmosphere and portrayed the characters well.
Would love a sequel but maybe it’s best to leave this on the terrifying end it gave!

You must read or listen to The Watchers
This was a random recommendation from a source I can't recall. I usually only give 5 stars to those classic books, The ones I love to read over and over, but this book was perfect. It was the perfect length, there was no "get on with it", no want to rush ahead. Every word, every moment was perfectly constructed. You become immersed in the the story, Each character had a voice and they were amazing. You begged them all to keep going, to find a way of escape, to return to their lives but then it hits. And it hits hard! Loved every twist and turn!
The narrator was also amazing. She was extremely easy to listen to and was precise enough that I could listen without headphones and hear everything she read.

I liked it, but didn't love it
The first 30% really got me interested, then it kind of dragged... I love some good descriptive writing, but there is such a thing as too much detail and this is what dragged this book down. Too much not relevant detail made me start to lose focus. Apart from that,I thought it was pretty decent I enjoyed most of the story I liked the ending and I thought the narrator was pretty decent too. Would I recommend it?... Maybe, it's a bit different which can be a good thing.
