About this listen
The entire Wasteland Chronicles series
No one expected Ragnarok. The miles-wide meteor fell from the sky in 2030, taking most of humanity with it. The lucky ones took refuge in the Bunkers. The unlucky ones had to deal with the meteor's aftermath...and the alien virus it unleashed.
Now, that virus is evolving, creating an army of mutants and monsters, mixing Earth genetics with something...not Earth. As humanity struggles in the wastelands of what's left, it might already be too late...
...unless a band of young heroes can rise up, and fight.

Good for passing the time
I bought the omnibus audiobook collection based off of the reviews. I finished it out of principle and had to increase the speed to 2.5x in order to power through.
The concept was great and the possibilities set up in a dystopian, apocalyptic future caused by an unknown alien entity were endless.
The story felt very disjointed and didn’t create suspense or a feeling of hopelessness which I believe was trying to be conveyed. Also, it didn’t seem like the characters had any chemistry which meant when one died or I was led to believe one died, I felt ambivalent to the outcome.
If you have 4 hours a day to drive in a car as I do, then this will get you by for a spell, but I had to switch to other audiobooks and podcasts and almost force myself to return to this series just to finish it.

Probably pretty close to the mark
The story is quite good and it is a fair indication of how humanity would end up.
The story would have been a good deal better if there had been more research and proof reading.

Time period gumbo.
I was with it, really enjoying the story, society has crumbled and your trying to survive in a hostile environment. sounds good right?
suddenly you have a spaceship, and space station.. then one of your team gets kidnapped so you parachute... from a spaceship.... into a town from the 1700's..... while on your way to see the ruler of a city from the roman emperor days....
i feel like they picked every time period, put them in a pot and hoped for the best. its a no from me.
a street gang has a freaking rail gun to shoot "dragons" ffs.
its all over the place.

Teenage wish fulfilment
Reminds me of the kind of stuff I would write about when I was 14-16. If the writer is that young then a lot can be forgiven, but as an honest review, the story quickly ventures into eyerolling cliche and trope territory.
The characters and world are poorly thought out and frankly ridiculous at the best of times. This could have been played out in an intentionally campy manner, which may have been fun, but that is clearly not the case here.
The protagonist insert character is an insufferably smug, plot armored goofball, who every young and beautiful female character is attracted to.
He is a skinny sixteen year old encountering the wasteland for the first time, who is somehow also already a warrior, braver and more competent at everything than even the apparently hardened wasteland warriors he encounters. And he’s also a brilliant wunderkind who intends to carry on his father’s xeno-biology work... Oh, and did I mention all the ladies love him too (of course)?
I could only forgive the childishness and suspend my disbelief for so long. It’s a big no from me on this one.
