About this listen
'Michael Connelly is a powerhouse, an unstoppable force in crime fiction. The Waiting is proof he is at the top of his game."
MICK HERRON, #1 bestselling author of SLOW HORSES

IN COLD CASES,
IT'S NOT THE HOPE THAT KILLS YOU.
IT'S THE WAITING.
LAPD Detective Renée Ballard gets a DNA hit in a case that has gone unsolved for twenty years. A recently arrested man is genetically related to a serial rapist who terrorised the city of angels.
But when the relative is revealed, it is the last person you want to accuse unless the evidence is watertight...
With the help of the newest volunteer to the cold case unit - patrol officer Maddie Bosch, Harry's daughter - Ballard finally has another badge on the team. But Maddie has an ulterior motive for getting access to the city's library of souls.
Because some crimes have been waiting to be solved longer than others...
An electrifying and authoritative thriller from one of the greatest crime writers of all-time - the author behind Amazon Prime's Bosch and Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer.

Another Excitibg Addition
The Bosch legacy lives on, in typical Connelly fashion the twists & turns abound as Maddie Bosch takes a more central role with Ballard & Bosch although a minor role in the overall story his typical aloof, forthright & no nonsense approach steals every scene he's a part of.
This novel is a logical extension of the Bosch journey with Ballard and Maddie pairing seamlessly if your a Bosch\Connelly fan this will not disappoint.

Another Bosch / Ballard Classic
Another great novel involving two of Michael Connellys longest standing characters. I love the slow transition From Bosch to Ballard while slowly involving the newest generation of Boschs.

Bosch and Ballard
What's not to love? A complex cold case progressed with a new case which could put Ballard off-side with office politics. Action, great characters and intrigue.

Just soooo great!
Have loved all of the Bosch books (severely) but now also love the Harry/Renee/Maddie evolution. What an amazing character is Renee?!
The day to day detective minutia is thoroughly addictive and the familiar LA locations (Sepulveda Blvd, La Cienaga etc) are great to hear about all the time. Esp from a Sydney-sider who loves LA.
I was saddened when this ended, slightly bereft and wanting more, which is weird but also the sign of a truly entertaining author.
Want to hear more!
Highly recommended.

Solid read
A good read as usual without reaching the heights of Harry Bosch stories. It’s a shame that the author had to colour real events through a political lens as this distorts the truth and diminishes the believability of the story.

amazing plot
Bosch maybe in retirement (sad) but the new protagonist is every bit as tenacious and gutsy but not as rude and rambunctious as Bosch. Michael has certainly not forgotten how to craft his novels. A recent revisit to Bosch in the first novel bought back this potty mouth hero who will always be my favorite protagonist.

The Ballard-Bosch Story I've been craving.
Connelly never disappoints. Been a big fan of him and this series for years now. I even grew up a bit with this series, passing through considerable changing times of my own life. For that reason, I love how our characters too have changed throughout the past few books up until now, The Waiting, and how new life - Maddie Bosch - has bloomed in the series. I think Connelly is still in the process of saying goodbye to Harry Bosch and continue his legacy through Maddie. And the transition is going smooth. The Waiting contains yet another collage of mysteries and twists that are fundamental in the Ballard-Bosch series, with Maddie taking a centre stage, while Connelly, through her, takes his own artistic dig at the infamous Black Dahlia case. But most of all, I love where Ballard has reached in her life now as the commanding officer of the open unsolved unit, as a detective, and as a person finally willing to forgive the mother who abandoned her in Hawaii. This book is full of action, more mysteries and cases than the previous books, and enthralling detective work. Great job Michael Connelly, and as always, looking ever so forward to your next story.

Wonderful storytelling. Connelly somehow just gets better and better. Great performances, great portrayals of women and an all round winner.
