About this listen
George Sephton's relationship with Liverpool Football Club began in 1971 when he wrote to the club secretary applying to be the stadium announcer. His first match also marked the debut of Kevin Keegan. For the past 50 years, Sephton has been at Anfield for all but a handful of home fixtures, as well as travelling with the team to major finals.
From the highs of winning numerous league titles and European Cups, to the lows of Heysel and Hillsborough, Sephton has been with Liverpool through it all. From encounters with great managers and legendary players - from Bill Shankly to Kenny Dalglish, John Barnes to Jurgen Klopp, he tells his unique and entertaining story of the greatest club in the world.
"George Sephton is part of the brickwork of Liverpool Football Club and was witness to so many iconic moments. He has lived through a huge chunk of our history, from when Liverpool were in the Second Division, when he used to come to Anfield with his father, all the way to being crowned World Club and Premier League champions. It's been a rollercoaster ride, and George has been there for all the ups and downs - but mainly the ups." (Sir Kenny Dalglish)

A Splendid Read
When news broke that this book was being released, I was immediately excited to learn more about a true Anfield icon I had been hearing in the flesh for 21 years now.
As things unfold, you soon realise what a true gentleman George truly is. I mean, we all kind of already knew that anyway right?
What I liked most about this was the humble and honest approach of George as he takes you on a season by season journey through important games as well as various moments from his private life of family and his love of music to name a couple. There are moments where you are left shaking your head at the way the club treated George regarding European Cup finals of later years. His memories of missing Istanbul whilst a girl who started working for the club store just two weeks prior to the final was taken to Istanbul left me angered and frustrated that LFC would treat a man of George’s stature so poorly. Still, there are many other wonderful highlights shared which often left me smiling and laughing. Particularly our mutual love and appreciation of Louise Cordet!
There are moments when George had me crying with both laughter and sadness during particular moments. His love of not just the football club but the city will make your heart melt.
Thank you for the memoirs George! And congratulations on 50 seasons as the only voice of Anfield there will ever be. One day soon, when I can get back home to England, I hope to take you for a nice meal and a drink to talk more in depth about this fabulous book and then some.
