This book will NOT help you create a great vision
I'm really sorry to write this review.
OK the good points, you get to hear again about the classic success stories eg Steve Jobs, JFK and the moon challenge, and the demise of Compaq and Kodak etc
Great hearing them, Michael is a great story teller.
However on actually getting to creating a "vision" for your own business.
It's WAY too complicated and WAY too detailed.
I've been an Apple reseller for more than 36 years. I live and breath Apple.
I was there in 1984 when Apple released the Mac. I sold Lisa computers.
There was never the level of detail in Apple's vision, that Hyatt tells you need you for your own business.
Steve Jobs philosophy was probably "Make insanely great products"
JFK was "Get a man onto the moon by the end of the decade"
Compaq's philosophy was sell as many boxes as you can.
Apple's current CEO, Tim Cook said it well with "The thing that gets me up in the morning isn't our profit or number of boxes we sell, it's making great products that enrich people’s lives. It’s the same thing that has driven Apple forever"
This book doesn't get you creating a simple passionate vision that will inspire you and your people
I wish it did but it doesn't for me
If it does for you great but I doubt it will work
When Apple was in big trouble after John Sculley was asked to leave and Michael Spindler couldn't change it's path, Apple turned to Gil Amelio
Gil outlined Apple's vision - which was so detailed and so boring that even I can't find it anywhere so far on the internet.
It was totally uninspiring and WAY too detailed
What's my philosophy on a Vision? Make it something that can inspire your people and yourself
You have to feel the passion for the things that you do day in and day out
Unfortunately this book fails to provide you with any template for making a Vision that your company will be successful with
