About this listen
A gripping, pulse-pounding DI Barton thriller from the bestselling Ross Greenwood.
After three years behind a desk, Inspector John Barton wonders if he’s still got what it takes.
An opportunity arises to return to Major Crimes, so he jumps at it, after all he’s been around the block a few times. When he and his team are called in to investigate an attempted murder which seems to be linked to the case of a missing child, Barton is immediately thrust back into the life of a detective – early mornings, late nights and endless pressure to get to the truth.
Then a man dies.
Something deadly is going on behind the high walls and imposing gates of the mansions in the sleepy village of Castor. The locals are keeping each other’s secrets and if Barton doesn’t find out why soon, the bodies will start mounting up.
The Village Killer knows who’s next, and the clock is ticking…
The book all Ross Greenwood fans have been waiting for - Barton is Back! Ross Greenwood returns to his bestselling series, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham and Ian Rankin.

Barton Brilliance
A joy to return to DCI Barton and the team.
Enjoyable and whilst not as deceptive as previous novels thoroughly entertaining.

the whole series flowed well
I liked that no obscure people were introduced near the end as the 'bad guy'.

Perfect voice for all the twists and turns
I’ve come to know this as the voice of DI Barton and it’s brilliant. Greenwoods writing never fails to entertain and engage from start to finish.

I love Barton and Zander
The storyline didn’t really grab me, not very exciting. I love this series so much though and it was great to be back with Barton and Zander. David Thorpe never disappoints.

Detective murder mystery at it's best!
I've read all the DI Barton novels and didn't know this one was coming! Did not dissapoint. I loved the narration, the descriptive scenery and the fact that the detectives are so plausible. No cringe or cliché! I really enjoyed the little 'post-script' ending too, that was unexpected and really rounded off the whole story for me ♡♡ Renee
