About this listen
Forced to leave the Clan and her young son, Ayla sets out alone to travel the frigid steppes until she finds the valley of horses. Unable to find people like herself, the Cro-Magnons, she settles there and seeks friendship elsewhere. First she adopts a young filly, then a wounded lion cub. But far to the west, two young Cro-Magnon brothers have begun a journey. One of them is Jondalar, whose destiny is bound inextricably with Ayla's.
Jean Auel's imaginative reconstruction of pre-historic life, rich in detail of language, culture, myth, and ritual, has become a set text in schools and colleges around the world.

I absolutely love this entire series!
The entire Earths children series is my absolute favorite story that i have ever read!
I will definitely be sharing this story with my little girl when she is old enough and with many others. It is Inspiring, entertaining, amusing and educational. I am so grateful to Jean Auel for taking the time to write this and I truly hope that one day the film created of this series will go to air and become a world wide hit so that we can discover more about our ancestral past, in order for human kind to reconnect with what we have lost in this day and age.

Well written and descriptive, but flawed.
I really enjoyed this book. I read it when I was younger and have a lot of nostalgia towards it.
However upon rereading (or rather, listening) I can now look at the book with a critical view. The descriptive capabilities of Jean M. Auel cannot be denied, however sometimes this can be a deficit. The author can describe the scenery and people in such a way that you can see them in your head with perfect clarity, however this does cause the sprinkled in sex scenes to get graphic, and I didn’t know there was so many ways to describe a mans private parts.
I love this series, I listen to the books back to back. However even I can admit that there are flaws to it. Thankfully, Audible have a 30 second skip option if the sex scenes become too much.
All in all, a great series that I regularly recommend to people (with a warning about the regular intercourse)
I really enjoyed it and will definitely listen again once I finish the series.

Better than the first.
Great book. Binged it in a few days. Now onto the 3rd.
Loved her becoming a badass hunter with a lion. Was hoping she would go into battle with him but it went in a different direction.
It's bordering on X rated too.

The evolution of early Homo sapiens in an exciting way
Auel is truely an amazing author who blends research on the development of Homo sapiens with an exciting woman innovative on the run.
Her story development and language skills are extraordinary for such a new author

This is great way to listen to your favorite books
I have the whole collection of these books. I have read them quite a few times, some more than others. Valley of the horses is one of my favorite... but unfortunately I don't have the time to sit and read these days, so while I'm working I can play the book on my mobile and hear it on my headphones without bothering anyone around me. This is going to be very addictive as I've finished listening to this book in record time... now I want to get the rest... lol
