About this listen
The latest stunning thriller from the bestselling author of Scrublands and The Seven.
Nell Buchanan and Ivan Lucic are back—as Nell is thrown into her most emotionally fraught investigation yet.
A controversial entrepreneur is murdered in a remote mountain valley, but this is no ordinary case. Ivan and Nell are soon contending with cowboy lawyers, conmen, bullion thieves and grave robbers.
But it's when Nell discovers the victim is a close blood relative, that the past begins to take on a looming significance.
What did take place in The Valley all those years ago? What was Nell's mother doing there, and what was her connection to troubled young police officer Simmons Burnside? And why do the police hierarchy insist Ivan and Nell stay with the case despite an obvious conflict of interest?
The Valley features a page-turning plot, intriguing characters, and an evocative sense of place—where nothing is ever quite what it seems. Chris Hammer, the acclaimed and bestselling author of the international bestsellers Scrublands, Treasure & Dirt, The Tilt and The Seven, presents another immersive and emotionally rewarding thriller.

Only the trace of gold at the Gryphon Mine
Chris Hammer always delivers complex plots with energy and pace and The Valley is no exception however the complexity of the plot and incidents seem contrived.
Choosing two narrators for the two eras in which the story unfolds would have helped overcome the confusion created by the frequent time shifts and narrators.
A good read but a little too far fetched.

More Challenging Story Line
The story line here is more intriguing and complicated than some of Hammer's early works and provides an entertaining and 'solid' listen as the plot unwinds. The development of the Nell Buchanan character in this novel goes well for future releases.
A good listen with some inter sting 'twists' and a 'just' outcome.

Keeps you guessing until the end.
Love how you can’t pick the storyline as you listen to the story. Cant wait to see where these two end up next time.

A great read
His best book for while. Not as many threads this time, so a lot easier to follow.

What a story! So many unexpected plot twists
What a cracker of a book! Moving between the timelines and that final conclusion kept me listening. Great to hear more of Nell and Ivan.

Another good one, but not the best yet.
Another good story by Chris. the books of his which flip back and forth between timelines are not my favorites, but this is definitely another solid read.

Another top notch Hammer book
Enjoyed and related to the dual time line, having struggled through the 90's recession. Quintessential Aussie noir.

Great Australian story - good Ozzie author!
The plot of the story kept me guessing till the end. Narration was top-notch! I've really enjoyed all the books so far - when is the next one coming?
