About this listen

A New York Times best-selling audiobook

This program is read by the author.

For those who witnessed the global collapse of socialism, its resurrection in the 21st century comes as a surprise, even a shock. How can socialism work now when it has never worked before?

In this path-breaking audiobook, best-selling author Dinesh D’Souza argues that the socialism advanced today by the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Omar, and Elizabeth Warren is very different from the socialism of Lenin, Mao, and Castro. It is “identity socialism”, a marriage between classic socialism and identity politics. America’s typical socialist is not a working-class union man but a Black Lives Matter activist, a transgender militant, or a prophet of environmental apocalypse. Today’s socialists claim to model themselves not on Mao’s Great Leap Forward or even Venezuelan socialism but rather on the “socialism that works” in Scandinavian countries like Norway and Sweden.

This is the new face of socialism that D’Souza confronts and decisively refutes with his trademark incisiveness, wit, and originality. He shows how socialism abandoned the working class and found new recruits by drawing on the resentments of race, gender, and sexual orientation. He reveals how it uses the Venezuelan, not the Scandinavian, formula. D’Souza chillingly documents the full range of lawless, gangster, and authoritarian tendencies that they have adopted.

The United States of Socialism is an informative, provocative, and thrilling exposé not merely of the ideas, but also the tactics of the socialist left. In making the moral case for entrepreneurs and the free market, the author portrays President Trump as the exemplar of capitalism and also the most effective political leader of the battle against socialism. He shows how we can help Trump defeat the socialist menace.

Essential listening

A brilliant survey of the current political situation in the USA that you will not hear on social media nor the mainstream media. A real wake up call to all who value freedom in the West.

Great Read

I've read most of Dinesh's books and this one is on par with much of his great analysis, research and commentary on Liberalism. But this time to view it through Marxian rose glasses was insightful and though provoking. Unveiling and labelling it as Identity socialism does hold much truth in what is happening in America today. Highly recommend.

A scholarly treatise

I appreciated the in depth analysis provided by Dinesh. We conservatives in New Zealand are starved for this kind of thoughtful backing to our ideology. The illberal takeover of our media and government is complete over here.

Eye opening

Dinesh writes warmly, passionately and earnestly.

He might not cite every reference for the sake of flow but I’ve no doubt one can find his references squarely back up the facts.

I can’t wait to read his other stuff.

A unique perspective

Dinesh has outlined that there are 4 requirements for socialism to exist and be maintained none of which can ever exist in America. It requires homogeneity of culture, religion and race.

1. Common Cause: Everyone has a stake in the system and strives towards a country that is their own. However in America, there is not one America, there are two. One is the Republic founded by the Founders, and the other is the Democracy that crept its way in. The Republic is what America is and the Democracy is what America could be. The Republic is comprised of Citizens and the Democracy comprised of voters.

2. Trust: Both towards the community and the individual. This is something that cannot exist in America according to Dinesh, because there is animosity towards people based on race, age, gender, culture and religion.

3. Faith: A belief in the system and a commitment to continuing that system which does not seem to exist in America. From flag burnings, insulting the founding fathers, digging up old wounds and undermining the constitution.

Dinesh paints a picture that the problem with socialism is socialists, and he is in fact correct. Rather than fix a problem they constantly juggle an infinite list of issues that will never be resolved.

He makes the claim that the Nordic countries are giving up Socialism due to those countries coming to resemble America. He is correct.
