About this listen
Bloomsbury presents The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanne Randall, read by Georgina Sadler.
The New York Times and USA Today bestseller
For fans of Practical Magic and Gilmore Girls this charming debut novel and TikTok sensation is packed full of romance, charm and plenty of magic . . .
Revelare witches are cursed. As long as they use their magic, they are doomed to four heartbreaks.
So far, Sadie Revelare has experienced three – the devastating departure of her mother and the loss of her brother. And the most painful heartbreak of all: Jake McNealy, her first love. Ever since, Sadie has done everything she can to protect herself from more pain.
But now Sadie's beloved grandmother is sick. And without her, Sadie isn't sure she will have the strength to keep her family and her magic together.
As Sadie’s carefully structured life begins to unravel, Jake returns to town after a decade away. And in the face of a final heartbreak that could tear Sadie apart, she must decide once and for all: is love more important than magic?
The perfect read for anyone looking for a cosy and warm, witchy novel to curl up with this autumn.

Perfect mix of Garden Spells & Practical Magic
This story wove together two of my favorite books, garden spells & practical magic. Sprinkle in my love for YL essential oils and it’s a true recipe for magic. Thank you!

Messy but got better
The premise of this book was interesting, but I really had to push through the first half. Second half was more enjoyable although overall I wouldn't say it's in my top favourites. I didn't really feel connected to any of the characters, let alone Sadie, for most of it.
I also have some questions that I feel were left unanswered, like who the menacing spirit was. Was it Julian?
Overall, not terrible but not fantastic.

Small Town Sweetness
This quaint witchy story won me over from the very start. I enjoyed every minute of Sadie's story and hearing all the delicious meanings of the recipes included. I just wish Sadie was here to make me something after each chapter. I eagerly await more!

tarragon and tea-leaves with magical baked goods
The pace of this tale was almost just right, I need more of Sadie's tale. I will be purchasing a hard copy of this title as I am in love with the recipes in-between the chapters. narrator was a little grating at first however she is more than capable to do many voices. The crescendo is whimsical and powerful, and invoking of many thoughts of the home, grandfather clock, and garden. 🫶

cozy soap opera vibes
great story felt like it finishes a bit quick maybe leaving an open for a sequel? great characters. the plot was cosy and dealt with themes of grief and identity and the writer wrote some very relatable characters and dynamics. overall loved it!
