Amazing narration - Incredible story - Fact
R.R. Haywoods writing has steadily become richer and more mature. Very few authours have kept me awake till 4.00 am with such intense story scenarios. His storyline for the Undead has widened to become more intriguing to match the longevity of it’s story arc. Nowhere has this become more apparent in Part 20 Equilibrium. The story development in this book has opened the series to a new frontier of possibilities and adventure. It left me gagging for more.
In The Undead Part 20 there is a confluence of three groups of characters with an addition of several major characters. Joe Jameson does the most incredible job of jumping from one character’s voice to another with different accents and pitch. No one can do female characters as convincingly as Joe, from old to young it’s hard to think a man is voicing them. There are a few scenes where there are a dozen or so characters quickly interacting and bantering among themselves and Joe switches between them all seamlessly.
I’ve listened to every Undead audiobook. When Dan Morgan quit the series after the 10th audiobook I was gutted. When Joe Jameson took over I was pleasantly surprised. My only gripe was his voicing of Dave which came across as Dave being a bit imbecilic. Luckily Dave didn’t speak that much but after a couple more books Joe Jameson tweaked Dave’s character back to Dan Morgan’s version of a snappier character while also adding a cohesion and familiarity to all the other characters . I think Joe Jameson is one of my favourite narrators, I would go as far as saying he’s as good as Steven Pacey (Joe Abercrombie’s First Law series) ...if not better in other ways. I can’t imagine anyone else narrating this series, he is a tour de force.
