A Message from The Author

Writing The Undead is a humbling experience. I am eternally grateful to the readers and listeners for the incredible support you always show.

Dan Morgan superbly narrated Parts 1 to 10, but unfortunately he was not able to continue. To my delight, the wonderfully talented Joe Jameson has now taken the series on. His range and skills are superb.

I am aware of the feedback about the voice of one of my characters, Dave. If this change has upset your listening experience then I can only apologise, but both Joe and I, and everyone at Audible, have listened to the points you made and take them very seriously. It is a wonderful thing to have such responsive fans, so willing to listen and work to make it better, plus the interactive nature of the series means you the listener can speak out and say what you like and don't like, otherwise how would we know?

We've got some cracking days ahead of us. Some real stonking rip-roaring storylines to come and both Joe and I can only hope you'll stay with us on this journey.

Take care,

RR Haywood.

Howie and Marcy fight their way back into the fort to rescue Lani, only to find her on a killing spree. Her body made weak by the incessant and relentless purge of the Undead, and believing Howie has betrayed her with Marcy, she now seeks to destroy him and all he loves.

With tensions running high, Maddox and his crews watch on while Howie tries to reason with the woman he thought he loved. She leads him to the armoury, where they are together and alone. She holds a grenade in her hand, ready to detonate.

What a ride!

having this story done in audible is awesome! I have read all the undead series and I love revisiting this amazing story again through a different medium. I think it took a little while to get used to the new narrators voice and didn’t like some of the voices he gave to some characters (Paula,Dave and Nick) but I must say he did a great job on the rest and it’s my understanding from friends ahead of me in the series these issues with the voices have improved greatly. I’m looking forward to continuing with the next book.

Well narrated, but weaker plot and character arc

Well performe, JJ's narration steadily improves from part IX, although I do still prefer Dan Morgans Dave and Nick voice, however the others are enjoyable.

(Potential Spoilers*
Similar to when I read the books, I absolutely adore the series, but one of the major character arcs in this part feels extremely forced, rushed and contrived. Especially the later reaction to it in the series, it almost feels like RR Haywood just wanted to delete the character asap, which I still find jarringly a major flaw in the story. It definately should've had more influence in later parts and more development in this part. Simply put, its still well performed, and alot of the story and writing is captivating still, but this part in particular felt like a massive deviation from the world and character lines in the Undead Series, and sort of leaves lingering "what about this" moments throughout the rest of the series. I would hope book 24 or 25 might give deeper explanation or development to it, but otherwise definately a degrading point for me in the series, though the later parts and books are still fantastic. RIP Lani.

Narrator hasnt improved the voices as indicated??

Another fail with the narrator.
You state that you have taken the criticism and are working to improve and listen to listeners….
But you haven’t, let’s hope next book you do.
