About this listen
A deadly infection spreads across Europe. The Undead series: a terrifying account of one man desperately struggling to survive this harrowing event day by day. Part one - days one to three.
Howie is at home on a rare Friday night off work when an infection which has rapidly spread across Europe hits his hometown on the South Coast of England. Luck sees him through the first night when many others are taken down and infected, only to rise again as the undead. In surviving, Howie quickly learns and evolves, developing a new set of skills that will save him from disaster.
With a former work colleague, Dave, at his side, he braves the urban squalor of a ruined Portsmouth and begins to understand his desire to remain good in a world rapidly descending into chaos, where only the strongest survive.

really good!!!
a solid zombie story. I love zombie stories that start from the beginning and follow ordinary people. so many in this genre are obsessed with telling the story of military guys and their military tactics - incredibly boring. I want to hear the story of average, lucky people who have apocalypse potential and watching them blossom into dystopian knights. I'm really looking forward to hearing the rest of the story.

fast story
it's not narrated the way most stories on audible are but that's not a bad thing. Story moves along at a nice pace after chapter 2, and not a yawn-listen-to-when-bored type of story. funny in parts and makes me think the main character is a bit of an idiot... who would help a bitten, infected person?! I love the workmate Howie finds - Dave- he's a very matter-of-fact type of person and would be a great companion during a zombie apocalypse. I'll be listening to the next book.

The Undesd part 1
Overall I enjoyed this story. There were some parts especially in the first half where the storytelling could have been tighter. Love, love Dave.

Save up those credits
If you start reading this series, I hope you have a ton of credits because you are going to want to listen to all 21 books in this series. Not every part of every book is superbly written but every time you get back to the main characters, you won’t be able to stop listening. Great characters that you become deeply invested in.

For free it's ok
I really struggled through this story. I know it's a personal account of the situation but the recount switches, the character does things that seem out of turn for how his character is introduced and the alternative character is creepy. I won't be listening to the other novels in the series I don't particularly want to be subjected to the unnecessary violence

Internalised misandry, yawn
Started out as an OK read/listen, not an amazingly written story at all, but ok enough for when I’m bored. But I couldn’t even get through part one. Just the way the protagonist is ok with inflicting death and pain upon the undead or living - so long as they are male, never female of course, as he has this sickening morality about never hurting a female and trying to save them.. As I’m strongly for treating people equally regardless of gender I can’t stand wasting my time listening to an annoying lead character who seems to really not like or have any respect for his own gender, and instead has such gynocentrism.
Yes ok I know that unfortunately the general populace is like this, will always treat females better, sexist against males thinking it’s fine to headbutt a male, and females deserve to have lives risked to save them.
Doesn’t mean I have to waste my time listening to that drivel though.
Going to write about head butting a living female just for being arrogant?
Didn’t think so.
I’ll move onto the next book.
