About this listen

From the author of the best-selling Til Death Do Us Part comes another gripping psychological thriller with a shocking twist.

Amy is a loving wife and mother to her husband and two children, Michael and Bella. It's that dedication to her family that causes her to seek help for her teenage son when it becomes apparent he is going to fail his end of school exams. Enlisting the help of a professional tutor, Amy is certain that she is doing the best thing for her child. But when she discovers that there is more to this tutor than meets the eye, it is already too late. With the rest of her family enamoured, Amy is the only one who can see that there is something not quite right about her. As the tutor becomes more involved, Amy isn't just worried about her son and his exams anymore. She is worried for the survival of her entire family.

Secrets and Subterfuge

Interesting story with interesting twists.

It was bubbling along quite nicely and kept me intrigued.

Despite the fact that there seemed to be an awful lot being to be revealed at the end that we could have got a kit me more of a heads up about within the stories “other person” narrative.

As far as the ending went, I always have issues with people, good or bad, not paying for their deception.
As far as performance goes it was good but I kinda wonder why that particular English accent was used.

It made Amy seem a little too smug at times and entitled? Maybe?

Easy listen

A pretty dark premise in a pretty funny book. The family at the centre were well observed and brilliantly narrated but the Tutor was just irritating in every way. I wasn’t convinced at all by the conclusion.

Great short listen

Good book with good twists. Maybe more character building around Sue would have been good.

lacks depth

The story line is light on detail or intrigue. Many chapters in and nothing had happened, I'm not sure why I kept listening. None of the characters were loveable or made you want to be on their side. The narration was okay, the accent for Petra was inconsistent. While it was all wrapped up at the end of the book, it definitely didn't leave you on the edge of your seat.

unbearable repetition of boring views

the characters are unlikable and not relatable because they all behave prepubescent despite the fact that they are actually supposed to be adults. minute descriptions of uneventful thoughts and views that get repeated by various characters without any differentiation.
