Publisher's Summary

Officer Noel Carlson isn't out to anyone in small-town Stratton, Pennsylvania, so a relationship is out of the question. That doesn't stop him from wanting one, though.

When a night-shift call brings him face-to-thonged-butt with a hired stripper whose girl-party gig went terribly wrong, Noel takes pity on the guy and lets him go. But he can't get the encounter out of his mind.

Shane has big-time debts to repay, especially to the brother who sacrificed nearly everything for him. His two jobs, in a deli and as a stripper, leave him no time for a social life. But a non-date of hot sex and takeout food with Noel? He can squeeze that in.

The bond they form is stronger than either expected or wanted. Especially since the step Shane's about to take to put his brother - and his soul - back in the black isn't quite legal. And he never calculated just how much his determination to make things right will cost him in the end.

Contains mature themes.

Why? Just why?

Good if you're after romance only storyline but felt the ending was unnecessary. I read this genre to feel happy at the end, not to need tissues. Also felt like some issues were left unresolved. Perhaps they are addressed in the sequel? But I won't read them now I know this author doesn't write 100% happily ever afters.

Smouldering and angsty!

Weighed down by a large amount of debt and lot of bad memories, Shane takes on stripping and porn work to supplement his meagre deli shift income. He hates doing the porn films but he wants to share the financial load he and his older brother, Jamie, are saddled with. Officer Noel Carlson meets Shane when one of his stripping gigs gets out of hand. Noel is closeted but captivated by Shane’s good looks. Both men have big secrets and regrets that might tear them apart if they can’t be honest with each other.

On paper I shouldn’t have enjoyed this, there was some heavy angst, a lot of sadness, even some real heartbreak in this story … and yet I didn’t find it too gloomy or depressing. Shane has been through a lot and sometimes his despair or frustration sees him acting out, but realistically so - life has dealt him a lot of blows. Noel is very patient and resolves his own issues more easily, but I never felt he was too good for Shane. You’ll have to make your own judgement call about whether Shane cheats on Noel by continuing to act in porn films while they’re going out … he doesn’t tell Noel what he’s doing but makes it clear he can’t be exclusive. Narrator Guy Locke has a breezy tone which I’ve enjoyed in other audios, but I noticed some dubious word pronunciations this time around (the entire trilogy is currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue).
