About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before.

'A lie can run round the world before the truth has got its boots on'

William de Worde is the accidental editor of the Discworld's first newspaper.

Now he must cope with the traditional perils of a journalist's life - people who want him dead, a recovering vampire with a suicidal fascination for flash photography, some more people who want him dead in a different way and, worst of all, the man who keeps begging him to publish pictures of his humorously shaped potatoes.

William just wants to get at THE TRUTH. Unfortunately, everyone else wants to get at William. And it's only the third edition...

The Discworld novels can be listened to in any order but The Truth is a standalone novel.

Story feels different to some of the others

The story is pretty good, but it is the first one in Ank morpork that has a different speaker and when you have the same characters performed differently (Vines, Carrot, Colon, Nobby etc.) it jars

Great Tale

A wonderful way to revisit Terry Pratchett’s fantastical take on the development of the press. Great narration brought the book back to life for me.

A new bar has been set!

Frankly the best reading of Terry Pratchett's work so far. I acknowledge that others have been amazing - from Nigel Planer to Stephen Briggs and Tony Robinson - but Mathew Baynton sets a new standard. Accents, comic timing, perfect characterisation and a deep love and understanding of the text just shine through on every level - flawless. Thank you!

an absolutely brilliant rendition

I loved this audiobook! I was unsure as I hadn't listened to anything read by Mathew Baynton previously, but he did an incredible job narrating. The characterisation was flawless, particularly Otto, he was exactly as I imagined him, the pacing and tone was perfect, this has become one of my favourite STP stories largely due to the narration. I hope Mathew Baynton does more!

Brilliant book, brilliantly read

Loved the performance and voices. Funny, with Terry’s usual social commentary. Wanted more of The Watch, but still an awesome book!

Very enjoyable

Loved it. Mathew Baynton did a brilliant job with the voice acting, and I could imagine him playing William de Worde if it was filmed. Also loved the cameos by the Watch!

Timeless, thought-provoking satire

Although 20+ years old, the hilarious analysis of the media is timeless. The characters of Mr Pin and Mr Tulip and magnificently incongruous. This is a rich novel with so much for so many.
