Critic Reviews

"A wonderful page-turner about a fascinating idea that should affect the way every thinking person thinks about the world around him." (Michael Lewis)

"Hip and hopeful, The Tipping Point is like the idea it describes: concise, elegant but packed with social power. A book for anyone who cares about how society works and how we can make it better." (George Stephanopoulos)

Mavens, Connectors and Salesmen

In The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell explores how ideas spread through communities and how certain groups of people play a role in this process. Gladwell's Law of the Few suggests that these three types of people are especially effective at spreading ideas and getting people to listen. He also suggests that depending on the situation, some combination of these three types of people can work together to spread an idea.

Connectors: These people are well-connected across many social circles, and are often able to introduce people from different groups. They are like the hubs of a computer network, linking people together.

Mavens: These are the experts in their field.

Salespeople: These people are masters of persuasion, and can make ideas accessible and sticky. They are able to get people to buy into their ideas, plans, or products.

Gladwell's book explores the "law of the few", which suggests that these three groups of people are necessary to spread an idea. He also discusses the "stickiness factor" and the "power of context" as other factors that contribute to the spread of ideas.

The Tipping Point is a fun and easy read that provides food for thought. The book's ideas are relevant and can be applied to a lot of situations

A bit lacklustre

I didn’t find this as compelling as Outliers. I don’t disagree with the premise, but some of the examples felt cherry picked and quaint.
