Epic

I first read the book in 1988. It was my instant Stephen King novel. Audible had given it to me again with a great narrator. I love how he reads this fantastic book.

It gets better

The first hour of narration is definitely grating; however, the story is rewarding if you just wait it out.

Disappointed

This book was a favorite of mine in my teenage years, so I thought I'd revisit it. Unfortunately I couldn't get into it, largely because of the narration. I found his voice irritating and distracting, almost a caricature. Oh well, I guess some things are best left in the past.

Great book

As usual any Stephen King book is great, this joint effort with Peter Straub is no different. I've been a dedicated fan since the very beginning.

Amazing story

If you are thinking of missing this story due to reviews on the narration. Don’t listen. After the first hour you don’t notice it and the story is too good to miss.

The characters and storyline is really fun, interesting and engaging. The concept behind the main aspect of the story is really original and inventive. Although the narration is a bit rough it gets better and doesn’t affect the enjoyment.

Love the book, hate the reader

The story is brilliant and Straub helps steer King’s often maniacal ideas toward a beautiful world and a brilliantly developing story. It’s a shame that the narration is so hard to get past. Obviously time might be a factor, but the narration is overly dramatic filled with strangely emphasised syllables and contours of phrases, compared to oddly more restrained character dialogue. If I didn’t love this story I wouldn’t have made it far.

My favourite novelist with my favourite narrator.

Stephen king is my very favourite novelist and love his works with Peter Straub. Frank Muller is my favourite narrator. What’s not to love. An epic tale of adventure, good vs evil and love.
