About this listen

The second novel of Skilgannon the Damned, from the acclaimed author of Legend.

Even in death, Skilgannon the Damned's name lives on. Now, as an ancient evil threatens to flood the Drenai heartlands in a tide of blood, he returns....

A thousand years after they fell in battle, two heroes - Druss and Skilgannon - are revered throughout the war-torn lands of the Drenai, where men and women live in abject fear of the dark sorceress known as the Eternal....

But what if the soul of one such hero could be called back from the void, his bones housed again in flesh? An ancient prophecy foretold that Skilgannon would return in his people's darkest hour. To most, this was a foolish hope. But not so to Landis Kan.

Having found Skilgannon's ancient tomb, he gathers up the bones and peforms the mystic ritual. But the reborn hero is an enigma: a young man whose warrior skills are blunted and whose memories are fragmented. This Skilgannon is a man out of time, marooned in a world as strange to him as a dream, remote from all he knew and loved.

Or nearly all. Before bringing back Skilgannon, Landis Kan had experimented upon other bone fragments found in the hero's tomb. That ritual resulted in a surly giant who possessed astounding strength but no memories. To Kan, he is a dangerous failure. To Skilgannon, this giant represents their last hope.

As ageless evil threatens to drown the Drenai lands in blood, two legendary heroes will once again lead the way to freedom.

Best yet

Subtlety is in these page's . Here i met 10 books of old friends and history. Made new friends. Laughed more than any other book. Cheered louder & cryed.

Sometimes we put a book on to listen to idley. Dont do that with this one. Make a space to hear the intricacies of the tale in full, let it pull you back over time and have u reminiscing over past books, pondering the direction of this book. Meet new people who are slowly crafted with such care, and watch them develop in ways worthy of Druss himself. "All men die sometime" so come to the best farewell book I've ever listened to.

Gemmell still makes my heart race!

I read my first D.Gemmell book, White Wolf, when I was 9. I read the whole thing and understood none of it, but I knew it was exciting. I was hooked. For the following 32 years, I have read every Gemmell book I could find, scouring 2nd hand shops and used book stores. He was a master of his craft and that's borne out by the ongoing popularity of his books. This is no exception. Brought to vivid and individual life by Sean Barrett's multifaceted voice, this story is well worth the time and attention. True Gemmell fans will not be disappointed and new fans will be just as hooked as I was, and still am.

One of my Favourites

What can I say? Another brilliant Fantasy novel by my favorite author. I think this was my favorite. I actually wrote a review on Audible, but it must not have saved. I have both read and listened to this novel. Skillgannan is my favorite hero. Loved the story.

Not as tight as previous entries. Still well worth the listen.

I have listened to the Drenai books in character order: Waylander, Druss, and Skilgannon. My favourite was Waylander. Druss grew on me, I believe I benefited greatly by starting with the prequels before reaching Legend. As a result reuniting with him in While Wolf was incredibly rewarding. And Skilgannon himself another fine protagonist.

The Swords of Night and Day reunite us with The Damned, and with a twist one last time with Druss. I found this novel to be a little uneven when compared to those that came before. Though the time jump, and the hints about the artifacts that allow for the joinings and reborns was interesting. I’ll be googling that.

I have not read every book in the Drenai Saga, but I feel this is a fitting conclusion. And I am saddened that David Gemmell was not around to expand further on his pantheon, if he so chose.

These have been some of the finest fantasy novels I have experienced. Thank you, Sir.

Mediocre title

This book was a recommendation. Compared to other stories I can't help but find it acceptable. It doesn't wow... It's just a nice book to pass the time. Easily put down and easily picked up again.
