About this listen

Can a gentle werewolf heal the heart of a smart-mouthed mage?

New York Times best-seller Gail Carriger, writing as GL Carriger, presents an offbeat gay romance in which a sexy werewolf with a white knight complex meets a bad-boy mage with an attitude problem. Sparks (and other things) fly.

Max fails everything - magic, relationships, life. So he works for DURPS (the DMV for supernatural creatures) as a sumage, cleaning up other mages' messes. The job sucks and he is in no mood to cope with redneck biker werewolves. Unfortunately, there is something oddly appealing about the huge, muscled Beta visiting his office for processing.

Bryan AKA Biff (yeah, he knows) is gay but he is not out. There is a good chance Max might be reason enough to leave the closet, if he can only get the man to go on a date. Everyone knows werewolves hate mages, but Bryan is determined to prove everyone wrong, even the mage in question.

I liked a lot about this, especially the audio narration!

Despite a dazzling magical pedigree, Max is the lowest form of mage, a huge disappointment to his arrogant, cruel, homophobic, and long-dead father - talk about unresolved daddy issues! When Max meets Bryan, a calm and caring beta werewolf, he’s just what Max needs. The two men form an amazing bond and so much more. I liked this a lot, the world build was great and the relationship chemistry was very satisfying. But, I felt it spun its wheels a bit … Max’s moping and insecurities took up a lot of space leaving less time for magical action. Also the ending wasn’t that climactic so it wasn’t quite as engrossing as I’d hoped. I’ll listen to the rest of the series because … Kirt Graves … His audio narrations always sooth and satisfy me, he puts so much playfulness and heart into his performances, he makes everything worthwhile!

Delightful

Charming fun romp filled with wit , humour, magic, shape shifters and damn lentils. Appreciated the tie in to the parasolverse and how the story's final chapters add substance to the beginning.
