Publisher's Summary

The day Abram and his mother arrived at Auschwitz death camp, they both knew it would be her last. In their final moment together, Abram's mum urged her nineteen-year-old son to 'Do everything humanly possible to survive, and tell people what happened here.' Then she was taken to a gas chamber and murdered. Abram had already endured and survived so much until that moment but with his strength of hope, sometimes reduced to a flicker, he survived.

After liberation, Abram travelled back and forth across Europe, doing secret underground work and getting into dangerous scrapes. He met the love of his life, fellow Auschwitz survivor, Cesia, and the young couple made their way to Australia. Without bitterness and always with perspective, Abram has never forgotten his mother's last words to him. Abram and Cesia have remained dedicated to educating people about the Holocaust and to living their lives to the fullest in tribute to its victims.

Full of wisdom, insight and daring, with a love story at its heart: for Cesia, for Australia and for life itself.

Highly highly highly recommended

This is by far the best book I have ever listened to.
This should be compulsory reading for all school children .
Beautifully narrated it tells a story like no other.
Puts our own lives and priorities into perspective….we have nothing to complain about.
We have lessons to learn from history and we are so fortunate to have this man tell his story and promote the essence of his beliefs.
Please read this book.

A sobering reminder.

It is so important to never forget history, else we repeat the same mistakes again such as Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

It shows the importance of maintaining hope.

Engaging and inspirational!

What an engaging and inspiration story! The book is well written and has short chapters which makes it accessible for busy people.

Mr Goldberg recounts his life story including experiences during the Holocaust with insight, humour and candidness while remaining positive. The narrator is charming and well chosen to represent the bubbly and optimistic author. Thank you for writing your story and sharing it with the world. Highly recommended!

Wow - very emotional

Abram - thank you for fulfilling your promise to yours and mother in ensuring the world knows and continues to know exactly what went on during the holocaust. My Polish Jewish grandmother’s entire family were exterminated by Hitler but I never really understood what they endured. My grandmother got married just prior to this time and had moved to England so was saved. I have a better understanding now. You are truely an inspiration. Your positivity is outstanding and so infectious. Thank you for putting your story down in a book to live forever. This is one book that will join my “keep forever and read again” small but important to me collection. Thank you again.

Hugely moving and informative

I loved this book so much. Yes it’s very sad and confronting in parts but I loved every minute of listening to the amazing account of this brave man. What an outstanding person. It’s inspiring from start to finish.
