Michael was in a hurry. He was scrambling up the ladder at Drake & Sweeney, a giant D.C. law firm with 800 lawyers. The money was good and getting better; a partnership was three years away. But a violent encounter with a homeless man stopped him cold. Michael survived; his assailant did not. Who was this man? Michael did some digging, and learned that he was a mentally ill veteran who'd been in and out of shelters for many years. Then Michael dug a little deeper, and found a dirty secret, and the secret involved Drake & Sweeney.
The fast track derailed; the ladder collapsed. Michael bolted the firm and took a top-secret file with him. He landed in the streets, an advocate for the homeless, a street lawyer.

A great rousing story
While it is quite dated now, this has always been a stirring story that reminds us of the importance of looking out for those less fortunate.

Believably true
Got me 🤔 Ng about Society as a whole and how we have become segregated into groups or classes. Years ago the problem of homelessness was much smaller and not as noticeable as now. Well written

A different brûlée of book fir me but I really enjoyed this story. Hearing the plight of the homeless from a different angle

Average book
It was alright. I loved the research and including the homeless but it felt there should have been a few extra mini stories should be included, like Ruby.
I also didn't like the narrator. His voice seemed too old for a guy in his early thirties and I didn't like how he stretched many of his words.

I felt it was quite boring
Sadly i did not enjoy this book at all, felt it was quite boring and not a very strong plot! The narrator grew on me , quite good!
