About this listen

Disappear into the world of the Sunday Times best-selling Chocolat....

Faith. Secret. Magic. Murder....

Vianne Rocher has settled down. Lansquenet-sous-Tannes, the place that once rejected her, has finally become her home. With Rosette, her youngest child, she runs her chocolate shop in the square, talks to her friends on the river, is part of the community. Even Reynaud, the priest, has become a friend.

But when old Narcisse, the florist, dies, leaving a parcel of land to Rosette and a written confession to Reynaud, the life of the sleepy village is once more thrown into disarray. Then the opening of a mysterious new shop in the place of the florist's across the square - one that mirrors the chocolaterie, and has a strange appeal of its own - seems to herald a change: a confrontation, a turbulence - even, perhaps, a murder....

A sequel to Chocolate

It is an interesting story but one will easily get lost if you do not read Chocolate, the first sequel of this book. Although the book sets in recent time, some 17 or 18 years after Chocolat, but it will make more sense to read it as a sequel. Author breaks the books in to different parts which can be confusing but yet interesting. Narration is not the best, but it is a ok listen when you are working on other things, without needing to concentrate too much on the dramatic performance. It is a book about the pass, the present, the known and the unknown with the fears, hopes, darkness, dreams, and the cross generational history and relationship.

Love love love.

Was so excited to see another book in this series and once again Joanne didn't let me down. This book seemed to come when I needed it most. Coincidental or everyday magic?

Joanne Harris never disappoints.

If you like the way Joanne Harris writes, you will love this book. I have read all 4 in this series and this one is equally as enchanting. The Strawberry Thief is endearing and the intriguing and complicated lives of Joanne's characters live on in the river gypsies and the insightful women of the French countryside.

Loved it!

Loved revisiting these characters and meeting the new. That the author herself was reading also did not disappoint!

A thought provoking tale of many tales.

I like it! I haven’t read any of the previous books but found the story to unfold slowly so as the characters tell the reader theirs. No one is without blemish but love overcomes all if one is brave enough to confront one’s fears!I definitely will now try the previous books.

More for effect than the story

Great imagery, but lacking in storyline. Perhaps reading this would be better than an audiobook.

Beautifully written but slow and long

The narrator was good but did not adopt different voices for different characters. There were 4 characters all speaking in the first person and often I was lost as to who's thoughts I was hearing. It would have been improved with a male and female narrator. Story is poetic metaphor, quite fanciful and maybe not too my liking. I would have enjoyed it more if it was half as long.

Unfulfilled promise

Sounds like an interesting story, but it is not really suitable for audio, as chapters start with unidentified speakers. Easy for the listener to get lost. The story drags, is far too long. At best interesting only in parts.

Tedious

I couldn’t stay with this story. Too many characters who seemed to not have a lot to do with the plot. Whilst listening I was often confused about the character speaking. It all went on too long and i didn’t care. Normally enjoy author but not this time.
