Publisher's Summary

For years, the Stranger House has stood in the village of Illthwaite, offering refuge to travellers. People like Sam, a brilliant young mathematician, who believes that anything that can't be explained by maths isn't worth explaining. And Miguel, a historian running from a priests' seminary, who sees ghosts. Sam is an experienced young woman, Miguel a 26-year-old virgin. But both want to dig up bits of the past that some people would rather keep buried. As they uncover intertwining tales of murder, betrayal, and love, they must put aside their differences to find the dark mysteries at the heart of this ancient place.

Critic Reviews

"A mystery novel, but far more than that. It's gripping...Hill is wonderful." ( The Times)

Well Written Dullness

When I buy a new book - it's the beginning of a whole new day - I'm full of anticipation - I'm excited - I can't wait to open my little prezzy and start delving around in it...
And I really don't like it when the book sux
I only want books to be exciting, compelling, original and well written. Am I asking too much?
Why would a writer write a book if it isn't those things?
This here is the story of a math whiz girl and a religious boy who sees dead people - and they both go to a spooky english village - she's looking for her family - he's doing a thesis
sounded like a good start - so i bought it - coz i liked the woodcutter - kinda
Then I started listening... and then... something happens... and they're in a village... and they try to shingy shongky blah bee blah badah zzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Couldn't really tell you what happens - I don't know - I lost interest - it's just more of the same - it didn't grab me - didn't excite me - just a guy droning on about some people in a village - nothing really happens - and I'm afraid I dozed off
Hopefully that tells you all you need to know
