About this listen
Jean-Henri Fabre (1823-1915) was a popular teacher, physicist, chemist and botanist, but is best known for his findings in the study of insects, and is considered by many to be the father of modern entomology. Much of his enduring popularity is due to his engaging manner of writing about the lives of insects in biographical form.
In The Story Book of Science the wonders of plant and animal life are shared by an adult in conversations with three children. Topics range from the mysteries behind thunder and lightning, the year and its seasons, volcanoes and earthquakes, as well as the ants' subterranean city, the spider's suspension bridge and the caterpillars' processing work.
