About this listen
From the best-selling author of The Life We Bury comes a "riveting, hold-your-breath" new mystery in which a woman finds herself in a race not only for justice - but for her life (Karin Slaughter, New York Times best-selling author of The Silent Wife).
Lila Nash is on the verge of landing her dream job - working as a prosecutor under the Hennepin County Attorney - and has settled into a happy life with her boyfriend, Joe Talbert. But when a woman is pulled from the Mississippi River, barely alive, things in the office take a personal turn.
The police believe the woman’s assailant is local photographer Gavin Spenser, but the case quickly flounders as the evidence wears thin. It seems Gavin saw this investigation coming - and no one can imagine how carefully he has prepared.
The more determined Lila is to put Gavin behind bars, the more elusive justice becomes. Battling a vindictive new boss and haunted by the ghosts of her own unspeakable attack, which she’s kept a dark secret for eight long years, Lila knows the clock is ticking down. In a race against an evil mastermind, it will take everything Lila’s got to outsmart a killer - and to escape the dark hold of her own past.
“In The Stolen Hours, there’s not a moment misplaced or a second lost. With the precision of a watchmaker, Eskens assembles the fine parts of a mystery and sets them to the tempo of a thriller, leaving the reader breathless.” (Craig Johnson, author of the Walt Longmire Mysteries)

A very clever plot brilliantly written
The characters were believable and the narration superb! Loved the various conversations and plot twists. The story played out as a blockbuster movie in my imagination.

Another great Eskens entry!
Allen Eskens has fast become one of my favourite authors. His books have never disappointed me and this one is no exception. The story is constantly entertaining and the characters three dimensional. I particularly love how he expands on the same universe of characters by making a side character of a previous story the protagonist in his next. The narrators, as always, were well chosen for their roles and execute not only the voices of the characters, but the general narration, really well. MacLeod Andrews does a particularly fantastic job narrating Gavin's perspective. I especially loved how he portrayed the lawyer, whose voice was almost unrecognisable in comparison to the other voices he did.

Good but not as good as previous ones
The plot is a bit naive but writing and character formation is good as usual.
The narration is great, but may have been better if it was just one person, they chose too many to narrate.
The book is completely missing some characters from the previous, like no mention of them at all, who actually pertain to the life of the main characters.
Overall, decent effort but I wasn't engaged in the book in the last quarter, it just lost its momentum.

Absolutely excellent series
Interesting, intriguing, engrossing. I listened to the entire series Books 1 through 6 in one consecutive run and thoroughly enjoyed every story. Very well written mysteries with 'just enough' background character-building and well-placed intersections between each novel. Listenable narrators brought out the colour in the prose. Well worth a listen!

5/5 for all 5
This whole series is amazing! Incredible writing, with seamless plot and character development.
I love how Eskens take one character from each book and shift focus to them in the next book. It’s not all about one main character through all the books. Narration for all of them added to the characters and story. This is a deep dive and fully immersive journey through all 5 books. Highly recommend
