About this listen

A runaway queen. A reluctant prince. And a quest that may destroy them both.

Eight years have passed since the Battle of the Serpent. But in the icy north, Lady Nore of the Court of Teeth has reclaimed the Ice Needle Citadel. There she is using an ancient relic to create monsters of stick and snow who will do her bidding and exact her revenge.

Suren, child queen of the Court of Teeth, and the one person with power over her mother, fled to the human world, where she lives feral in the woods. Lonely, and still haunted by the merciless torments she endured in the Court of Teeth, she bides her time by releasing mortals from foolish bargains. She believes herself forgotten until the storm hag Bogdana chases her through the night streets. Suren is saved by none other than Prince Oak, heir to Elfhame, to whom she was once promised in marriage and who she has resented for years.

Now seventeen, Oak is charming, beautiful and manipulative. He's on a mission that will lead him into the north, and he wants Suren's help. But if she agrees, it will mean guarding her heart against the boy she once knew and a prince she cannot trust, as well as confronting all the horrors she thought she had left behind.

The spellbinding new fantasy from the Queen of Faerie Holly Black, author of the Folk of the Air series.

Weaving another epic tale

Holly Black has weaved another epic tale with mystery, lies and strategy on a story between 2 very different people. It’s wonderful the way it all plays out.

Absolutely loved it

I hate reading a book when it is newly released as I am too impatient and want the next one straight away! I can’t wait for the next instalment.

Another excellent series of twists and turns

My only which is was longer.
I wanted to keep listening.
Suspenseful, imaginative, and the usual flawed characters. Highly enjoyed it.

High expectations led to disappointment

I think my expectations for this book were too high as I really loved the folk of the air series. I was a tad disappointed by this book. Holly Black is a great story teller and I have enjoyed quite a lot of her books but this just missed the mark a little.

Amazing

I love this book so much. I was worried that it wouldn’t live up to the folk of the air series but it was amazing.

Thoroughly enjoyed.

Don't come here expecting or comparing it to the cruel prince trilogy. It is its own story and it's perfect as it's own story. Loved Wren, she is not Jude, she is her own kind of flawed perfection.

If you venture into this story with no bias, you will enjoy it, I sure as heck did!

loved it!!

Saskia narrated this story wonderfully.
hate that it doesn't have a proper ending, but will await the next book..
It is written very well as Holly Black seems to do.
Now it's Queen Suri and Prince Oak that are all grown up and on their own quest to make things right in their worlds...

Clever story but very slow

I loved the Cruel Prince series and was looking forward to this book but it was very slow and I struggled to stay motivated. But it did get good by the end! Looking forward to part 2 now!

Character Development

Always takes me a bit of time to get used to a new voice in a much loved series but after I got into the flow of it - I loved this book. Really enjoyed some new character development!
