Publisher's Summary

First came the days of the plague. Then came the dreams. Dark dreams that warned of the coming of the dark man. The apostate of death, his worn-down boot heels tramping the night roads. The warlord of the charnel house and Prince of Evil. His time is at hand. His empire grows in the west and the Apocalypse looms.

For hundreds of thousands of fans who read The Stand in its original version and wanted more, this new edition is Stephen King's gift. And those who are listening to The Stand for the first time will discover a triumphant and eerily plausible work of the imagination that takes on the issues that will determine our survival.

The unabridged version

Classic battle of good and evil.
Having read this book a few years ago it was really interesting to hear the parts that were not included in the version I read. The characters and their backgrounds really added to the story.
It does go for over 50 hours and I really enjoyed Grover Gardner reading it.

Immersive

I loved the book. I loved the mini series. The Audible version is great as I could listen to it while working in the garden.
Listening to it while in a worldwide lockdown due to pandemic was a little freaky.

Immersive indulgence

Steven King produces the MacDonalds of books. Compelling story, shallow characters, a guilty addictive indulgence. Great narrator. 47 hours of listening pleasure to get you through the longest journeys. Thoroughly recommended.

Great nostalgia

It doesn't necessarily hold up well to time, but a great story nonetheless. Good to listen to if you are a Dark Tower fan.

A book revisited

I read this book many years ago. I've never really liked reading descriptions in a book, always finding conversations or the action much more interesting. But King excels in his descriptions and held me all the way. I just couldn't put the book down, always wanting to know what was going to happen next. I'm not a bookworm, but I read this mammoth book in five days.
Onto present day, when I discovered that I could listen to this book, I jumped at the chance. I am lucky enough to be able to listen to podcasts all day at work. Not this past week though, I've only listened to The Stand. Surprisingly, I couldn't put the audio down either
