About this listen
Gray Delacroix has dedicated his life to building his very successful global spice empire, but it has come at a cost. Resolved to salvage his family before it spirals out of control, he returns to his ancestral home to save his brother and sister before it's too late.
As a junior botanist for the Smithsonian, Annabelle Larkin has been charged with the impossible task of gaining access to the notoriously private Delacroix plant collection. If she fails, she will be out of a job and the family farm in Kansas will go under. She has no idea that in gaining entrance to the Delacroix world, she will unwittingly step into a web of dangerous political intrigue far beyond her experience. Unable to deny her attraction to the reclusive business tycoon, Annabelle will be forced to choose between her heart and loyalty to her country. Can Gray and Annabelle find a way through the storm of scandal without destroying the family Gray is fighting to save?

The love story & the intriguing plot!
I loved the characters and the plot twists, I did not expect the story to develop the way it did. I couldn’t put the book down!

A fabbo romance and a fascinating look into the history of food purity.
I listened to this story via Audible, so have given Ms Camden's story 5 stars, not the narration. That wasn't as good as I'd hoped, especially in the final quarter where I think a few words were cut (I'm hoping it was just a few words). 😣
I really enjoyed Gray and Annabelle's romance for many reasons. I love age gap stories, so that was fun (he he!), enjoy a serious Hero plus a heroine not afraid to endure embarrassment for a good cause, and the adulteration of food has been a hot button for me for close to 2 decades, so seeing the historical struggles with things like an ingredients list I take for granted? Very cool. (I'd also like to note that I've never bought imitation vanilla, even when we were penny-pinching. Just can't do it. 🙊😂)
I struggled with Annabelle as she was stuck between a rock and a hard place with her decision, and was sympathetic to her reasons for deciding what she did... so I struggled with Caroline's animosity. Yes, I got why, but... hmm. Not a sympathetic bone in her body along with her entitlement mentality, expecting Gray to pay all her bills. Sorry, but I'm not sure how I'll deal with Caroline's romance next... hoping I'll relate to her as I read it. 🙊
A really great story which set up the next two books in the series.
