About this listen
The New York Times best-selling author of The Unhoneymooners returns with a hilariously witty and feel-good rom-com about your perfect match being the last person you'd expect....
Jess Davis is a numbers genius, but when it comes to love, she's had to accept there is no magic formula. Juggling a career with raising her daughter, it's not surprising that her love life is...nonexistent. When yet another date ends in disaster, she's prepared to give up on love for good.
But then she hears about GeneticAlly, a buzzy new matchmaking company that claims to find you the One using a DNA equation. Suddenly, love doesn't seem quite so far out of reach....
Until her test shows an unheard-of 98 per cent compatibility with GeneticAlly's founder, Dr River Pena. Jess already knows Dr Pena, and this man is 100 per cent not her soul mate. Yet as the pair are dragged from one event to the next, as the ultimate 'Diamond' pairing that could make GeneticAlly a fortune, Jess begins to realise that there might be more to the scientist - and to the science behind a soul mate - than she thought.

My favourite Christina Lauren book so far!
This book made my heart both sing and ache. Everything I want a romance to do. I loved the slow burn romance of River and Jess and went right along the journey with them. Fizzy was an amazing side character and I hope she gets story turn next. So well researched by both authors too.

An intriguing premise but could go deeper
The premise of genetic matching is perplexing and intriguing. The narration of two human lives intertwined flows effortlessly for most parts. But the premise could have been worked on in more depth. This would have enabled a nuanced invitation to think of the ethics and implications of such a technology ever is commercialised.

Cute story, rushed ending…
This was a cute, easy listen... A fun, predictable little escape. I felt like the ending was a bit rushed though. The story itself had a huge build up, until the obvious problem emerged between the main characters - then it was solved and the story was over. I get the feeling the author planned something much more dramatic to happen, but then realised it would make her hunky main man seem a bit too mean, so changed the plot at the end. Either way - still a fun story.

I personally loved it
I had fun with the idea of genetic matching and all the different ways this story made me think about it. I felt very relatable to the female main character, unlike other stories where I often feel the female main is too perfect, Jess is just like any of us. For any other single mothers out there or anyone who loves a cute, whirlwind romance and interesting ideas, I definitely recommend!

It is warm and funny with some great characters and the sex scenes aren’t bad either.

It just did not hold my attention
I started and stopped this multiple times. There was never any urgency to get back to it and about 2/3 of the way through, I decided to give up and read something else. It wasn’t awful, it was just boring/soppy enough for me to quit. As for humour, it never really tickled my funny-bone.
The narration was pretty good, but occasionally stilted. I have heard other work by Patti Murin that was much better.
