About this listen
When Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was the Khalifah, he met his governor Nafi at Usfan, a valley near Makkah. Umar asked Nafi who he appointed to lead the people there, and Nafi named Ibn Abza, a former slave. Surprised, Umar questioned the choice. Nafi explained that Ibn Abza was well-versed in the Qur’an and inheritance law. Umar then recalled a saying of the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). This story is authentic, told to us by the most noble of the messengers, Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and was collected by Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) in his Sahih.
