About this listen
Eighteen months after Natalie Gray loses her husband, Bernie, in a horrific hit-and-run accident, she finds love with his best friend, Ed Cooper, and moves into his home with her teenage daughter, Scarlett. But she begins to suspect Ed has a dark side - and even darker intentions. Natalie must get her troubled child to a safer place, but when Scarlett starts to hear voices coming from the empty apartment next door it seems she has unwittingly moved them into the heart of danger.
DCI Tom Douglas is also chasing the truth. As his investigation into the suicide of a teenage girl draws him ever closer to Natalie and Scarlett, will he be too late to protect them from the threat they face or from the truths that will tear their lives apart?

A complete page turner. Couldn't wait to get back to it when I had to leave it for other tasks. Totally unpredictable, but what will happen next? Is there a sequal? Natalie is not at all safe and Ed is a complete rotter! If he kills Natalie, Scarlet is the step-daughter of a double murderer and pedophile. The end is not satisfactory. There is another book in this story - maybe not. Natalie and Scarlet have suffered too much already.

Horrible Narration
Book has the potential to be awesome but the narrator ruins it!
The shrieking, whining voice used as the teenage daughter. The mumbling, low voice when trying to mimic a male voice ... makes it very hard to listen to as you have to play with the volume all the time!
Such a poor performance that ruins the potential of a an otherwise good book. I just can't listen anymore, will be returning this one. Such a shame 🙁

Quite an intriguing book but did not like the ambiguous ending
This is the first book by Rachel Abbott that I have read/listened to. It’s quite captivating, the twists are believable and the story is engaging but I didn’t like the ambiguity of the ending especially since it’s a detective novel.
