Editorial reviews

A dynamic cast brings life to Robert Louis Stevenson’s thrilling short story "The Sire de Maletroit's Door". On an evening in September 1429, with troops from Burgundy and England milling about town, 21-year-old cavalier Denis de Beaulieu swaggers to a friend’s home and stays past midnight. On the way back to his inn, he becomes lost. To escape a group of soldiers, he pushes through a mysterious door into a dark interior. When the door shuts, he discovers he is unable to get out. Alain, Sire de Maletroit, appears and gives the young man a choice: marry his niece or face death. Can Denis escape a bloody ending?
