About this listen
"I very much need to be dead."
These are the chilling words left behind by a man who had everything to live for - but took his own life. In the aftermath, his widow, Jane Hawk, does what all her grief, fear, and fury demand: find the truth, no matter what.
People of talent and accomplishment, people admired and happy and sound of mind, have been committing suicide in surprising numbers. When Jane seeks to learn why, she becomes the most-wanted fugitive in America. Her powerful enemies are protecting a secret so important - so terrifying - that they will exterminate anyone in their way.
But all their power and viciousness may not be enough to stop a woman as clever as they are cold-blooded, as relentless as they are ruthless - and who is driven by a righteous rage they can never comprehend. Because it is born of love.

Terrible Narrative
Nothing personal towards the Narrator however I have to say, the narration ruined the story. Her voice was so monotone that I could only bear to listen at 1.5x the speed.
I have just finished listening to the Outlander series who’s narrator is excellent so perhaps that made the listening of this narrative that much worse but from now on I will remember to listen BEFORE I buy.

Great story!!
Ok, I originally gave this book a bit of a poor review because it ended so abruptly I was left wanting more... But then I found out it was just the first in a series of books, so I was absolutely thrilled and I take it all back!! I've now listened to all four books in the series and the story is just brilliant, she is a great character and even all the extras along the way are brilliant characters. The twists and turns this story takes often left me slapping my hand over my mouth and gasping! Can't imagine what anyone in the car next to me might have thought... :) Highly recommend this series to everyone, I listened every chance I got, I just couldn't put it down.

Entertaining
Interesting story, and I like that it has a female protagonist.
The audio quality of this recording isn’t great. Whenever the narrator speaks there is a noise in the background (tape hiss?).
The narrator is adequate except when she does make voices. All her male characters (and one female!) speak with a gravelly voice that makes it hard to distinguish them from each other, and it becomes annoying quickly.

Listening Torture
It was extremely difficult to listen as Elisabeth went loud and then soft. She dragged the words slowly and then sped through the next few words in the sentence. Trying to be dramatic but so difficult to listen to.
I stopped and gave up listening so not sure about the story quality.

Terrible robotic narration
I got a short way in and had to stop with this book. I used to read a lot of Dean Koontz and love his stories. I was looking forward to hearing this one which I have never read but is well regarded by fans. I kept zoning out listening to the expressionless drone of the narrator. I'll keep it on my device though as I suffer regular insomnia and think this would really help next time I'm lying awake.
