About this listen
When Fawn is kidnapped by one of these creatures, it is up to Dag, an older Lakewalker, heavy with sorrows and responsibilities, to rescue her. But in the ensuing struggle, it is not Dag but Fawn who kills the creature, at dire cost. And an uncanny accident befalls Dag's sharing knife, which unexpectedly binds their two fates together.

"Compelling characters lift this first of a two-book romantic fantasy from Hugo-winner Bujold....Bujold hints at an epic past of mighty kingdoms and ancient sorceries, a past that will hopefully be fully detailed in the sequel." ( Publishers Weekly)

Fantastic Story, Okay Narrator
I've read this book before and absolutely love the story and characters. One of my favourite authors, I can't wait to start another of her books.

Good book, Narration uneven, hard to understand.
Had read the book and series earlier but decided to try the audio version. Unfortunately the earlier chapters were difficult to make out at times, particularly when the characters were moving at pace and though I became more familiar with the narrator's diction and speech patterns, I still found some parts hard to listen to.and understand. Lois McMaster Bujold is one of my favourite authors and I thoroughly enjoyed the series when first issued, but I preferred the narrator on the Penric series.

Great author - well read!
I enjoy LMMB’s fantasy books, and these are no different - great story, well set up and told. The reading was also very well done. Thumbs up!
