About this listen

2018 Audie Award Finalist for Multi-Voiced Performance

The entrancing story of a reclusive Hollywood starlet as she reflects on her relentless rise to the top and the long-held secrets the public could never imagine - from the best-selling author of Daisy Jones & The Six.

Reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship and a great forbidden love.

Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story nears its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

"Riveting, heart-wrenching, and full of Old Hollywood glamour, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is one of the most captivating reads of 2017." (Buzzfeed)

Good plot.

Reflects the behaviour and morals of the era of early film makers. Told by journalist of another era.

Surprisingly good

I didn't think I would enjoy this book as much as I did. The performance takes me back to an era of old Hollywood I never got to experience and you can't help but love and dislike Evelyn all at once. I couldn't stop listening. Recommend!!

Thoroughly enjoyable read

The book feels like it's a biography. The movie stars are vain, insecure and flawed.

I would put it in the category of holiday read; nothing earth shattering, just a good read with some unexpected twists and turns.

The overall performances were good, with the exception of the French accent that sounded more Spanish, but that's just being picky
