About this listen

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Good Sister and The Mother-in-Law with new novel Darling Girls out soon.

In a family of midwives, some secrets are too big to keep hidden ...

Neva Bradley, a third-generation midwife, is determined to keep the details surrounding her own pregnancy - including the identity of the baby's father - hidden from her family and co-workers for as long as possible.
Her mother, Grace, cannot let this secret rest, even while her own life begins to crumble around her.

For Floss, Neva's grandmother and a retired midwife, Neva's situation thrusts her back 60 years in time to a secret that eerily mirrors her granddaughter's - a secret which, if revealed, will have life-changing consequences for them all.

"Enchanting...Hepworth's skilful storytelling means past and present flow seamlessly...it's easy to lose yourself in the lives of the three, strong female protagonists." (Daily Telegraph)

"Hepworth illuminates one of the most important moments in a woman's life - when she becomes a mother - and spins a story that will hold you captivated until the end." (Emily Giffin, author of The One and Only)

Made me consider a career change!

I loved this so much when I finished I started doing the maths on whether I should career change into midwifery! (I decided against it in the end).
The story was fantastic, keeping me hooked to the end. Highly recommend to anyone who finds the synopsis intriguing

Nice story, lovely narrator

A bit too slow paced for me, but a pleasant listen. Would recommend if you like Sally Hepworth

Heart Warming

I felt this book was just what I needed.
heart warming and beautiful, the narrator, the characters, the storyline were all in sync and just perfect.
I would recommend this book to everyone!! Specially anyone who is in need of a warm hug, and a reminder of how precious, and how beautiful, birth and motherhood are
Thank you for such an amazing book 💜

Warms your heart

This book was a lovely listen with a very sweet story. As a mother myself I got actual chills during some of the births, brought back so many fond memories! Loved it!

Probably just read this one instead of listening…

I love Sally Hepworth novels, but this narrator ruined this one for me. She made the younger characters sound weak and pathetic.

Not my favourite of Sally’s but still a good story

This felt quite different from Sally’s other books. It’s a fine beach read but I would recommend her other books before this.

Sentimental story... but we all love babies

Sweet baby story but the readers voice almost made me turn it off... high pitched, saccharine, unrealistic .

Narrator made me nearly stop listening

Great storyline but the narration made it very hard to persist through. Took away from the story and feel like it would have been more enjoyable to read as a paperback. Love all of Sally’s books and this was no different!

Really distracting narration

The story was good, predictable and occasionally frustrating, but the narration was really distracting. The voice of Neva sounded like a fake small child voice and the whole thing was really off putting and hard to enjoy. It took from enjoying the story. I think if I had read the book instead it would have been far more enjoyable. Disappointed.
