Trying to investigate the Secret Service is like trying to get rid of the stink of dead badger. Hard.
For two years the government's Monochrome inquiry has produced nothing more than a series of dead ends.
The Service has kept what happened in the newly reunified Berlin under wraps for decades, and intends for it to stay that way.
But then the OTIS file turns up.
What classified secrets does it hold? And what damage will it create?
All Max Janácek knows is that someone is chasing him through the pitch-dark country lanes and they want him gone.
WE ALL HAVE JOBS TO DO IN THE DAYLIGHT. IT'S WHAT YOU DO IN THE SECRET HOURS THAT REVEALS WHO YOU REALLY ARE.

Making sense of it all
A really great story which clears up so many mysteries of the Slough House series whilst telling a brilliant tale of its own. The narration was brilliant as usual.

Another great book in the Slow Horse series
What a great book
I love all Slough House Books this book was up there with the best. You finally get the missing backstory from some of the key characters.
Once again Sean Barrett was fantastic
Standing by the wall book leads into the Secret Hours.
The book was very short ,only an hour long.
It was a great book but not worth 1 credit ,
I felt like standing by the wall should have been included as a prolog in the secret hours.
All that said I loved both books

Classic Mick Herron
The action is well written and fast paced. Characters are forever interesting with back story through twists and turns for some Slow Horses characters.

Herron and Barrett - the perfect combination
These days I go by the narrator as often as by the author of a book and I'm more comfortable with English than with American voices and I really like an author who can write a novel, not a would-be screenplay so on every count - a rare writer and a very rare good reader, this book is worth your time. Perhaps not Herron's very best book, but Barrett makes up for the occasional dull page.

Intricate to the max
This book finally provides the back story of how Slough House got its beginning. Very complex.

One of his best
Loved it! One for the Slough House fans Herron deserves to be ranked with Le Carre and Fleming
