About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

We have your daughter.

Frida Liu is a struggling mother. She remembers taking Harriet from her cot and changing her nappy. She remembers giving her a morning bottle. They'd been up since four a.m.

Frida just had to finish the article in front of her. But she'd left a file on her desk at work. What would happen if she retrieved it and came back in an hour? She was so sure it would be okay.

Now, the state has decided that Frida is not fit to care for her daughter. That she must be re-trained. Soon, mothers everywhere will be re-educated. Will their mistakes cost them everything?

The School for Good Mothers is an explosive and thrilling novel about love and the pressures of perfectionism, parenthood and privilege.

Captivating story

I was unable to stop listening. A great book, not mind blowing but a good one.

Dystopian view on motherhood

A heartbreak fictional commentary on how society judges mothers and the impossible loops the marginalised are forced to jump through to keep their children.

Not what I expected

Not what I expected. Basically, a depressing book. The characters ok, but the overlay of guilt is dreadful. Kept going to see what the end was. Shouldn’t have bothered.

Thought provoking

A harrowing story of governmental control, how mothers are treated more harshly than fathers.

How one mistake can change your whole life. A thought provoking and gripping listen

Haunting

I found this really hard to listen to. It’s very disturbing. In a similar vein to Handmaids tale, but without anything to take away. I feel I gained nothing from listening to this, then feeling frustrated and upset. Not what I was expecting. I listened to the end hoping it would improve. It didn’t

Silly

It’s a shame. This book’s premise is very interesting, however the articulation is unfortunately very poor.

Totally unrealistic and over the top

Storyline started off really well and had a promising storyline. I struggled to listen to this book and only did so for our bookclub book of the month. The story was so far fetched and unbelievable it was difficult to listen. I didn’t relate to any of it. One of the worst books I have listened to and I was really disappointed in it.
