Publisher's Summary

Jack McEvoy is at the end of the line as a crime reporter. Forced to take a buy-out from the LA Times as the newspaper grapples with dwindling readership and revenues, he's got 30 days left on the job.

His last assignment? Training his replacement, a low-cost reporter just out of J-school who couldn't find the police station if it was right next door to the Times, which it is.

But Jack has other plans for his exit. He is going to go out with a bang - a final story that will win newspaper journalism's highest honor - a Pulitzer Prize. He focuses on Alonzo Winslow, a 16-year-old drug dealer in jail after confessing to a brutal murder. But as he delves into the story, Jack realizes that Winslow's so-called confession is bogus. The kid might actually be innocent.

They just keep coming

Once again thoroughly enjoyed the narration of scarecrow along with the story line. Couldn’t wait to go to bed to start listening

Great story

I really enjoyed the story, and Peter Giles narration.
You know it’s good when you can’t put it down.

Meh

Plod your way through a basic plot with a whining protagonist. The whole story is laid out with us waiting for the bumbling reporter to get there

Why? Why?

I have listened to most of the Michael Connolly catalogue specifically the Bosch books but I also thoroughly enjoyed the first mcevoy book. The narrator has changed and now I have been forced to try to listen to the MAN WITH gRAVelist voice evah! Unless you want to listen to someone sounding like the guy who did all of the 90’s action movies trailer narrations, don’t bother. Just too poor to listen to and such a shame. I will keep an ear out for other narrators for this novel but this bloke just sounds like a dope and I can’t put up with it to finish the book

Good, not as good as Book 1

Enjoyable, but not as good as book 1 and a lot more unbelievable regarding some of the decision making of the characters. The attempt at a soft/loving moments between some characters is not good at all (not only saying this because I'm a big action guy, I do like some romance in my stories but this is really bad).
Also, I've realised that Jack is a bit of a d-head. Really hard to like this character.
